Acoustic Wednesdays.....Gyazette

Picture
Gyazette came together when bandleader Nickolai Salcedo, a visual artist and former teacher, taught himself to play guitar and started writing music out of a desire to reach his students on a different level, coming from the unique Trinbagonian experience.

Since then the band has been making waves with poignant lyrics and a fresh kaiso sound with a contemporary edge. Salcedo's lyrics encompass everyday life, the typical things affecting the man on the street, the struggle of human interaction in this urban jungle, while this kaiso and soca driven musical product captures the diverse musical influences Trinbagonians are exposed to, infusing pop, rock, rhythm+blues, eastern melodies, reggae: a true Port-of-Spain sound.

Gyazette is a group of extremely talented personalities, each contributing their own musical flavour to this authentic Trinbagonian musical callaloo.

THe SONic REVIVal PROJect

This band is a reincarnation of sorts, a new take on an old tale.
...
The first part of this story begins with the birth of Brothers Grimm (Port-of-Spain, Trinidad) in 1992.

After putting Warhead to rest in 1991, long-time bandmates Andrew Moffat and Cesco Emmanuel formed Brothers Grimm. After a handful of line-up changes (and stints with various players including: Nick Nathaniel, Keith Chin-Pang, Peter Louis and Nicholas Marsan) the group became a power trio (1994) with Orlando Pyle on bass.

The 'Grimm' as they were called played on till 1996 but split ways due to increasing internal conflict and differences in musical direction. A few 're-union' gigs happened now and again over the years, but nothing concrete was ever considered, that was until Cesco Emmanuel returned home (in 2008) after a five-year stint in Canada.

So after a few brainstorming sessions and many beers, the SONic REVIVal PROJect was born early 2009. Building on the foundation Grimm had, the PROJect seeks to be a bit more experimental in nature.

The PROJect sees once again Andrew Moffat on vocals/drums; Cesco Emmanuel back on vocals/guitars and Christopher Ng-A-Fook (whose previous experience includes Tamper Evident and Isolate) on bass.

The second half of our story sees our heroes currently finishing up a new album, set for release summer 2010.

It only took 13 years to get to this point and right now, the only way out leads to a stage.

Shadow Live on de Ave

Picture
Winston Bailey (born October 4, 1941), better known by his stage name The Mighty Shadow or Shadow, is a calypsonian from Trinidad and Tobago. Bailey was born in Belmont, a suburb of Port of Spain in Trinidad, but grew up in Les Coteaux, Tobago with his grandparents. He began to sing at a very early age and he wanted to be a singer although his grandfather told him he must be a lawyer.

He won the Road March in 1974 and 2001 with "Bassman" and "Stranger" respectively. He won the Calypso Monarch in 2000 with "What's Wrong With Me" and "Scratch Meh Back." Shadow is also known for his unique dance in which he jumped to the tempo of his music in "skip-rope style" with both feet in the air at the same time. He won the Trinidad & Tobago Humming Bird Medal (Silver) in 2003.

He was the first to win both the International Soca Monarch and the Trinidad Road March competitions simultaneously, a feat he accomplished in 2001 with his song "Stranger

Crazy Live on de Ave

Wednesday 16th February 2011
Crazy, the calypsoian from Trinidad & Tobago, is among the top performers of Calypso and Soca music.

A performance of Crazy is a wild, happy and crazy experience and ranges from social commentary calypso to wild party soca.
